Horticulture

Earthstone manufactures substrates and aggregates engineered to meet the specific needs of different horticultural communities including floriculture, greenhouse and nursery, and commercial hydroponics. Products can be used in hydroponics systems and as a soil amendment, in commercial, container garden, and landscape applications.

Hydroponics

Earthstone has created products for hydroponic grow systems, for use in both commercial and home hydroponics farming. A reusable plant growing medium, the material can be sterilized and used again or simply added to soil to improve texture, structure, and aeration. The worldwide market for Hydroponics is estimated at over $300 million and Earthstone has the first major product development in this arena in over 20 years.

Soil Amendment

Earthstone products are an alternative to perlite and other soil amendments. They help commercial and home gardeners create the best soil for water retention and aeration. Earthstone has products for container gardening, the floriculture business, greenhouses and nurseries. With bedding and garden plants alone constituting a $2.6 billion market, Earthstone’s product line is poised to effectively compete in price and effectiveness with established soil amendments in the home and commercial horticulture markets.

Green Building Material

Earthstone is a green technology building material that offers light weight, bulk density and a high surface area for use as an aggregate and as a substrate.

Aggregate

Earthstone material is a high strength, lightweight aggregate that has chemical compatibility with cement.

Green Roof Research

Research is ongoing for the use of Earthstone as an integral part of green roof systems. Its light weight, superior water retention properties, and strength make it a promising alternative to other green technology building materials used for biodiverse green roofs.

Abrasives

Designed for strength, durability and control, Earthstone’s sanding and paint removal products are already a part of this expanding $900 million retail marketplace. Our products are designed for specific tasks from light hand sanding to heavy-duty power sanding.

Industrial Abrasives

Earthstone technology is being carried from the retail market to the growing $1.3 billion
industrial abrasives market as new products are being designed with specific characteristics such as strength and durability for particular applications.

Cleaning

Earthstone’s environmentally safe household cleaning products are already a part of the $900 million retail cleaning market. They’re being used for cleaning kitchens, baths, pools and spas, and barbeque grills.

Institutional cleaning products

New possibilities for private label initiatives in this $250 million market include industrial cleaning, janitorial cleaning supplies and restaurant cleaning.

Filtration

Structurally rigid and strong enough to handle high pressure, Earthstone material can be used for a variety of filtration applications in this $165 million market. A rigid foam with pores, the material has a high surface area, whether used in a particulate or block form.

Earthstone material can be used as a structural substrate and coated with ion exchange resins. Uncoated, it is still naturally compatible against most acids used to remove pollutants or contaminants in common water filtration applications. Filtration applications in the petrochemical industry and nuclear waste processing are also being investigated.

Armor

Ongoing research is testing the use of Earthstone material in modular armor. Its light weight, ability to be laminated to other materials and formulated for controlled failure mean this material shows great promise in this $310 million defense application.
